SCRIBBLERS OF BREVARD DRIFTWOOD XXXIII  2014 GUIDELINES

 

ELIGIBILITY

Any Brevard resident may submit poetry, prose, artwork, and photography. Submissions must be original, unpublished and not under consideration elsewhere. All rights revert to the author, artist, or photographer after publication.

Work must conform to the entry rules or it will not be considered. Email entries that are improperly spaced, have page numbers or headings, are in a different font or size or not in .doc format WILL BE DISALLOWED. There will be NO exceptions to the rules and requirements. Deadlines are FINAL.

 

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS       

PROSE:

Fiction or non-fiction not to exceed 2500 words, single spaced and e-mailed in .doc format. Copies 2, 3, 4 and 5 double spaced. (for judges and proofreader Ėproofing copies will NOT be returned.) Do NOT number pages.

 

POETRY:

100 or fewer printed lines, single spaced. Title on all poems except haiku. Artistic layout accepted.

 

MINI -SAGAS:

A complete story in exactly 50 words not counting the title

 

FORMAT:                                              NOTE CHANGES     

Work must be printed on 8.5 x 11 white, high quality paper in 12 point Times New Roman. Work submitted in all caps or script will not be accepted. You will need  a total of five copies of each work. They must be identical in content.  On the copy for the publishing editor type the authorís name, address, phone number and e-mail address (if any) in the upper right hand corner. Prose also requires a word count in the upper right hand corner.  The title of the work should be centered in capital letters with the authors name centered beneath it. It must be sent in .doc format. The next copy contains the same information but is double spaced. the next three copies should have just the title centered in capital letters above the double spaced work. Word count is not required on poetry or mini sagas. Only those entries selected for Driftwood will have their score sheets returned at the first meeting after the book has gone to the publishers.  Score sheets can be mailed back to the author only if a self-addressed stamped envelope is submitted to the literary editor.

Mail these four copies (2-5) to the Literary Editor  Carole Forsythe, 584 N. Wickham Rd. #81, Melbourne, FL 32935 or deliver them to her at a Scribblerís meeting.

 

An e-mail of  COPY ONE is to be sent to the Publishing/Managing Editor at billserle@aol.com in .doc format  

THIS IS REQUIRED OF ALL ENTRIES. NO EXCEPTIONS.

There is no restriction on the number of entries a person may submit but THE TOTAL NUMBER OF ENTRIES TO BE PUBLISHED WILL NOT EXCEED SIX AND NO MORE THAN THREE IN ANY ONE CATEGORY

 

Prose 1501-2500 words, if selected, counts as two entries.          

 

Multiple qualifying entries, by a single author, in one or all three categories, are selected at the editorís discretion.

 

ENTRY FEES:

$3.00 each prose up to 1500 words, poetry and

mini sagas

$5.00 each prose up to 1500 words, poetry and

mini sagas

$5.00 each prose 1500-2500 words

$8.00 each prose 1500-2500 words

 

DEADLINE:

Prose and poetry must be in the hands of the Literary Editor no later than  March 22, 2014

 

ART:

Do not submit originals Either e-mail a copy of your work or submit a 4 x 6 photograph. The original may be pen and ink, charcoal, pastel, watercolor, acrylic paint, oil paint or other. Name, address, phone number and e-mail address (if any) must accompany each entry. Please title each entry. Selections will be printed in black and white. Only the DRIFTWOOD cover is printed in color,

 

PHOTOGRAPHY:

Submit 4 x 6 photographs or e-mail copies. All entries must be the submitterís own work. Photographic works will be changed to black and white format for publication. Name, address, phone number and e-mail address (if any) must accompany each entry. Please title each entry.

 

No more than 10 art and or photography entries may be submitted by any one person.

 

The anthology cover will be selected by member vote at the first meeting in August

 

ENTRY FEE:  There is NO entry fee for art and photography.
